Hunt Valley-based armored car company Dunbar Armored unveiled a new division Tuesday that pulls together its physical security and cybersecurity teams so threats in all forms can be monitored in one place.
Dunbar launched a cybersecurity division three years ago to complement its armored car services, hoping that the banks and other clients who needed their vaults and cash protected also would choose the company to guard against denial of service attacks, hacking and fraud.
Called Dunbar Security Solutions, the new division merges Dunbar’s existing Cybersecurity, Security Systems and Protective Services teams and is located in a new 15,000-square-foot facility in Hunt Valley.
Darren McCue, the division’s president, said Dunbar had few competitors who were merging physical and cyber protection services. The company has been in business for more than 90 years, starting with armored car services.
“Those are things that are difficult for a traditional cyber competitor to get into,” McCue said.
The company believes its services will be attractive for mid-size businesses, particularly in financial services and health care.
Dunbar has 5,230 employees, including 722 in Maryland.
Staffers working around the clock in an open room at the new location monitor servers, firewalls, log data, intrusion detection, IP cameras, guards, access control, desktop systems and social media.
“I think the problem with the industry at large is that everyone is doing a small slice of security,” said Christopher M. Ensey, the division’s chief operating officer. “It’s not just cyber, it’s not just alarm systems, it’s about how can we manage risk at an enterprise level. That’s why data breaches occur, because not all parties are communicating.”
